Do the research on real estate in Panama and there is no question you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you can get and how little it costs. You will find Panama real estate to suit all budgets and all tastes. Whether you are looking for a luxurious high-rise apartment, a tropical beachfront condo, or a breezy mountain retreat, there is a perfect piece of Panama property waiting for you.

It is important to note that buying property in Panama is safe and easy - foreigners enjoy the same property rights as Panamanians. There are some slight differences between buying Panama real estate and buying real estate in the United States, but in general buying real estate in Panama is an easy (and often smart) proposition.

Excellent Real Estate Options in Panama City

Those considering a move to Panama City are always pleasantly surprised to find a very modern metropolis. Real estate in Panama City is of a correspondingly high quality. There are numerous attractive neighborhoods in Panama City, offering the types of real estate properties that most people would be very happy to call home.

San Francisco, El Cangrejo, La Cresta, and Bella Vista are four popular neighborhoods in Panama City. The property available here is primarily condos but there are also some houses scattered about. All of these areas are safe and central, offering Panama real estate owners close access to shopping centers, grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, parks, etc.

Slightly more expensive and particularly popular right now are Punta Pacifica, Punta Paitilla, and Marbella. These neighborhoods are along the Bay of Panama, so there are many real estate options for sale here that offer exquisite, panoramic vistas of both the ocean and city. There are many expats and foreign workers living in these areas alongside their Panamanian neighbors. Much of the Panama City real estate consists of luxurious high-rise buildings that are full of amenities. Living in these areas allows you to enjoy the best Panama City has to offer, but like everything in the country, this real estate is relatively inexpensive considering its incredibly high standards.

Casco Viejo in Panama City.
Some expats are finding beautiful properties to renovate in the Casco Viejo district of Panama City.

Some other appealing property options in Panama City are found amongst the colonial style edifices in Casco Viejo, the city's historical center. The ambience in Casco Viejo is truly unmatched in Panama. Many of the buildings are in a dilapidated state but they are now being be restored as residences or to house museums, offices, restaurants, art galleries, boutiques, and more. In fact, Casco Viejo is home to International Living's Panama office.

Gorgeous Panamanian Property by the Mountains and Beaches

Outside of Panama City there are also many appealing Panama real estate options. The most well-known is undoubtedly the cool mountain village of Boquete, which enjoys an eternal springlike climate. Boquete is located in the province of Chiriqui, near the Costa Rican border. This is coffee-growing country, and in recent years has become well known as one of the most popular retirement havens in the world. The growing popularity of Boquete has caused a corresponding rise in real estate prices, but many still find it an attractive option.

Those interested in finding property in a location with a similar mountain climate, but closer to Panama City, may want to look in El Valle de Anton or Sorá - less than two hours from the capital.

Finally, people looking to live with sand between their toes will find lots of available beach real estate. Panama has a tremendous amount of coastline and there are still long stretches of virtually untouched beach that can be purchased at very low prices. People are starting to realize the potential of Panama's beach real estate but there is definitely still time to buy your piece of tropical paradise before the Panama real estate prices rise too high.
