Honduras makes it very simple to obtain residency and move to Honduras to live here, no matter what stage in life you are at. The three main types of residency are: for retirees, for people with investment income outside the country, and for people who are interested in investing in their own future through a business of some kind. The process of obtaining residency and moving to Honduras is begun back in your home country at the nearest Honduran embassy and completed here in Honduras by an attorney. Costs for obtaining residency and officially moving to Honduras will be about $2,000 and time to complete varies from a month to a year. Meanwhile, you will be permitted to remain in Honduras during this process, by virtue of a passport stamp issued by the embassy or by the Honduran Immigration Department. Owning Property
Property ownership laws in Honduras are very moderate for foreign nationals. You may personally own up to three quarters of an acre in Honduras. It is also very simple to establish a Honduran corporation, which will permit you to own more. The cost for this process ranges from between $1,000 to $2,000. Honduras is proud of its two excellent and modern medical facilities, located in San Pedro Sula and in Tegucigalpa. These are equipped with MRI, Bone Density, Mammography and Cat Scan facilities, and essentially anything else which is currently available in the U.S. These hospitals are staffed by physicians and specialists of all disciplines, many of whom were trained in North America. Honduras has deep water ports on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, facilitating the transporting of goods into the country when you move to Honduras. You can bring a 20-foot container from Florida to Roatan, for example, for $1,200 U.S. Also, some of the residency categories allow you one time to bring household goods in duty-free, and to import a duty-free vehicle every five years.

Communications
When you move to Honduras there is absolutely no need to be cut off from loved ones, or from news of the world (unless you want to be!). Communication systems in Honduras are very good and improving daily. Telephones are available as landline, cell phone, satellite phone or VoIP. Satellite, DSL or Dial-up Internet are all also available. If you were wondering how to continue to pay your bills back in the U.S. after you move to Honduras, have no fear because it is all possible via the Internet. Just be sure to establish Internet access to all of your banking and financial interests in the U.S. before moving to Honduras. Both cable and satellite television can also both be enjoyed.
Building and Furnishing your Home
Building costs in Honduras are very reasonable and many excellent builders and architects are available. Average building costs for a house made entirely of wood range from $45 to $75 per square foot, depending on finish, and from about $65 to $110 or more per square foot for concrete construction (again, depending on quality of finishes you choose). And all finish materials are available, from excellent native hardwoods to granite countertops imported from Europe and the Far East. Excellent quality fixtures and furnishings can be obtained easily on the mainland and will probably cost you less than importing your own from the U.S. San Pedro Sula, in particular, as an industrial center, is an excellent place to shop for automobiles, furnishings, and all other items you may search for after moving to Honduras.
