Take a Seat in Honduras Furniture

October 2, 2006
Roatan, Honduras

Honduras is not all about tourism. The government wants to grow that industry, of course - as we have told you. But the government also seeks to boost the economy in other ways.

For instance, did you know that major furniture companies such as Hooker, Lexington Home Brands, Hammary, Drexel Heritage, Lane, American Drew, and Pennsylvania House all remarket furniture made in Honduras?

It's true. And last year, in 2005, Honduras ranked 41st on Furniture Today's list of U.S. furniture-source countries. Residential furniture shipments to the United States from Honduras totaled $6.8 million, more than 10 times the amount ($645,000) it sent in 2004.

Let's put on a show: Expo Mueble Honduras 2006

To showcase the talents of Honduran furniture makers, the government is partnering with furniture-industry companies to host Expo Mueble Honduras 2006 October 4-6 at the Expocentro convention center in San Pedro Sula.

The primary goal of this furniture show is to introduce buyers to the talents of Honduras manufacturers and help restore some of the market share lost to China since the late 1990s. It is hoped that the Expo will help further invigorate the local industry and the overall economy.

If you are in the furniture sales business, you might want to consider attending this event. You could be on the leading-edge in working with a burgeoning new market of talented furniture makers. I have seen the work of local craftsmen and it is very impressive. And anyone who is considering buying a home or condo here can be assured that they can furnish their property beautifully - and at a very low cost - while helping support local tradesmen.

Best Regards,
