Eventure Dear Eventure Reader, The month of October was already gearing up to be an exciting month, but here at International Living Events Central we're planning to make October the biggest month of the IL year. We've locked ourselves into our state-of-the-art Mission Planning Facility here in Waterford, Ireland. We've fired up the links to our global network of operatives and contacts, and have been finalizing the details for the ultimate International Living event. Indeed, that's what we've named it
The Ultimate Event, to be held October 24-27 in Panama City, Panama. (Sure, we might have come up with a more cutesy and creative name, but in this case the facts speak for themselves.) New Venue, New Lineup This will be our second annual Ultimate Event. Last year's venue was nice, but this year we've put ourselves in the heart of the action at the newly renovated Sheraton Hotel in Panama City, Panama. (With it's own casino, by the way.) As you'd expect for our biggest event of the year, the entire Events team will be there to ensure the wheels keeping turning and everything is running smoothly. Also joining us will be more International Living staffers than ever before. Our globe-trotting Mad Madam of Mirth, Steenie Harvey, will light amongst us for the duration. Latin America Über-Editor Suzan Haskins will be there with her entire crew of reporters and correspondents. She will, of course, be bringing along her husband Dan Prescher. The Big Man with the Little Guitar is recently returned to the IL fold, and will be on hand to emcee the event and to play the role of wandering minstrel (if we can keep him out of the casino). Maria "Europa" Savage will attend, in her new capacity as IL's European Editor, to make sure the Cradle of Western Civilization is adequately represented, along with experts and contacts from nearly every corner of the globe. The information will be impressive and the fun won't be far behind. On top of the usual welcome and farewell receptions, we'll have our group dinner. This year it'll be held at the fabulous El Tambor de la Alegria restaurant on the Causeway, where we'll enjoy drinks, a Panamanian buffet, and a unique cultural show telling the history of Panama. For you Roundtable, World Club and other VIP members, your special reception at this year's Ultimate Event will be extraordinary. We've booked the entire Teatro Nacional in Casco Viejo for you, and the activities will match the setting. (There is a photo of the Teatro Nacional at the Ultimate Event promotional page here. Stunning place!) Fun and frolics aside, there will be more international experts, advice, and actionable information at this event than ever before. And of course, it's in Panama
the buzzing Hub of the Americas
with more nightlife, sun, sand, surf, cultural activities and business and real estate opportunities per square mile than just about any place on earth. Don't miss this one
we've put everything we have into this year's Ultimate Event, and you'll want to be part of it. For more information, click here. Best Regards,
Grant Perry Events Director, International Living Did You Know? New Zealand has extended daylight savings by three weeks staring in 2008. Perfect if you're coming to our Live & Prosper in New Zealand Seminar and optional country tour in March 2008. You'll enjoy an even longer summertime! Person of the Month When Steenie Harvey speaks at International Living events, people listen
and not just because she's been writing for International Living for the past 14 years. Or because she has visited more countries, including most of Europe and Asia, than anyone else we know. No, it's not just her experience that draws the crowds to her presentations. Steenie is also entertaining. Heck, she's dang hilarious. You'll not mistake her English accent for that of the landed gentry, and you'll certainly not mistake her pithy and often acerbic observations of life and business on the road for the usual travelogue claptrap. Steenie tells it like it is
the way a Cockney cab driver will tell you about a crooked politician or a Wyoming cow hand will tell you about people who buy $1,000 boots. No B.S., thank you very much. What else would you expect from someone who left school at 15 to live in a hippy squat in London
tended bar in a strip joint
inspected bolts at a factory
waitressed in a Chinese restaurant
and clerked at a print shop before becoming International Living's Roving European Editor? It's called life experience, and Steenie has it in spades. Whether she's sharing it with you over a Campari and soda at the bar or on stage at a seminar with 300 other people, Steenie goes directly to the heart of the matter and makes you laugh as she takes you along. Steenie lives in county Roscommon, Ireland, and is the author of Live Well in Ireland, and Adapter Kit - Ireland. Her latest book is called Adapter Kit - a Guide to European Vacation Rentals. She is also the host of International Living's Import/Export seminars and a frequent presenter in travel writing workshops and seminars held around the world.
